Product of the Week: Richard Chai for Original Penguin
October 11th, 2011Hitting stores now is the much anticipated 30 piece capsule collection from Richard Chai for Original Penguin. Bringing a new fresh, direction to the classic and easy style Original Penguin is notorious for – the collection available from today introduces a selection of innovative fabrics and silhouettes.
Adorning each exclusive piece is the Richard Chai for Original Penguin logo – to be worn with pride. Inspired by the downtown New York art scene of the late 60’s and early 70’s, the embroidered branding is juxtaposed with a mixture of patchwork and mixed fabric detail in honour of the Icons of Art from this time. Definitely a time not be forgotten. The vibe is reminiscent of the mod and punk movements into underground America, as well as one of the most influential decades in Modern Art, that saw legends such as Andy Warhol’s work frequenting galleries as much as he was clubs.
Forward thinking and free movement was key, and Richard Chai brings a piece of this history back to the Original Penguin customer.
The collaborative collection will be available at both London flagship stores – Covent Garden and Westfield, Stratford as well as select independent retailers in the North and South of the UK, notably, the highly respected Pysche in Middleborough.
Original Penguin SpeakEasy Winner
September 5th, 2011We teamed up with VICE and ran a competition to design the store window for our Covent Garden flagship store. Not only could you have your design displayed but the winner netted a nice £500 for their artistic efforts.
The window had to follow this seasons’ AW11 ‘speakeasy’ theme, which refers to secret bars operating illegally in the bygone era of prohibition. The winner was Asa Bradshaw, who is studying advertising at university, check out Vice Style for an interview with the talented winner – here.
